Information for Employers – Existing Worker Traineeships
Under the Existing Worker Traineeship program, employers are now able to receive grants of up to $4,000 for eligible employees to study Certificate IV Financial Services (Bookkeeping).
- Eligible employees must have worked in your business for more than 3 months full-time or 12 months part-time.
- Certificate IV Financial Services (Bookkeeping) is a nationally recognised qualification.
- Investing in the development of skills for quality staff encourages staff retention and benefits your business.
- Study can be undertaken either by distance learning or classroom learning.

BI560 Introduction to Accounting and Bookkeeping – 2 Days
This two day trainer-led course has been designed to introduce the theory and practice of basic accounting and bookkeeping. The course introduces participants to the various source documents and journals required to establish a computerised set of accounts for a small to medium sized business.
This course is excellent for people with little or no accounting experience. Although computer accounting packages are the standard method of accounting, without an understanding of the underlying processes, users of these systems often have difficulty verifying results or troubleshooting. We recommend this course to anyone who has little or no accounting experience and is using – or is about to use - MYOB, QuickBooks or any other computer accounting system.
This course has been designed to introduce the theory and practice of basic accounting and bookkeeping. Although not a computer based training course, Microsoft Excel 2003 and MYOB may be used to support the courseware.
BI540 FNSBKPG404A Carry Out Business Activity & Instalment Statement Tasks - 2 days
This unit is a mandatory requirement of the Tax Agent Services Act 2009.
The Act states that a BAS Agent must hold one of the following academic qualifications:
Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping or Accounting) or higher award, from a registered training organisation or equivalent institution that includes the successful completion of a course in basic Goods and Services Tax/BAS taxation principles.
The FNSBKPG404A Carry out Business Activity and Instalment Activity Statement tasks is the only nationally recognised course available in basic Goods and Services Tax/BAS taxation principles.
At present only the Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping) includes this course as a mandatory unit.
The Certificate IV in Financial Services (Accounting), the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Accounting and all University Accounting degree courses exclude a course in basic Goods and Services Tax/BAS taxation principles.
If you hold any of these qualifications you will be required to take this FNSBKPG404A Carry out Business Activity and Instalment Activity Statement tasks course in order to apply for registration as a BAS Agent.
BI575 FNS40207 Certificate IV Financial Services (Bookkeeping) – 16 days
This comprehensive course is designed for people who wish to have a career as a professional
contract bookkeeper, either working under the direction of a Tax Agent/Public Accountant, for a Bookkeeping Business or Franchise or in their own Bookkeeping Business.
Employed bookkeepers with experience will also benefit from this nationally recognised course as they will gain a valuable qualification in their chosen career field.
This 15 day course includes comprehensive manuals, bookkeeping training using MYOB and the FNS40207 Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping) which is the newly developed and released Australia wide accredited qualification for bookkeepers. Participants will be instructed by Catherine Parker, Exact Business Solutions Pty Ltd.
Exact Business Solutions Pty Ltd is conducting this course under contract for The Bookkeeping Institute of Australia (BIA). BIA is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) registered under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) by the Training and Employment Recognition Council of the Queensland Government (national code 32190). The Bookkeeping Institute of Australia is registered for the full delivery of FNS40207 Certificate IV in Financial Services which is an Australia wide accredited qualification.
The BIA FNS40207 Certificate IV Financial Services (Bookkeeping) course has received approval for Centrelink Austudy and Pensioner Education Supplement funding. Eligible persons may apply to Centrelink. Please quote Institution Reference Number 4P774 when contacting Centrelink.

Upon completion of your studies, you’ll also be qualified to complete Business Activity Statements (BAS) under the supervision of an accountant in accordance with the proposed legislative requirements of the Tax Agents Services Bill 2008.
